Chapter 1: Wat Pak Nam Phasi Charoen

Just 300 meters from Mahanakorn Thai Cooking Class
Wat Pak Nam Phasi Charoen: A Landmark Just Around the Corner
One of the things we love about our location is that our cooking class is surrounded by places that tell the story of local Bangkok.
Just 300 meters from Mahanakorn Thai Cooking Class, you will find Wat Pak Nam Phasi Charoen, one of the most recognizable landmarks in this part of Thonburi.
For many visitors to Bangkok, the first places that come to mind are the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, or Chinatown. But on the other side of the Chao Phraya River, Thonburi offers a different side of Bangkok — quieter, more local, and closely connected to traditional communities and canals.
The Giant Buddha

The most striking sight at Wat Pak Nam is the enormous Buddha statue,
Phra Buddha Dhammakaya Thep Mongkol, which rises high above the surrounding neighborhood. Its impressive scale makes it easy to spot from quite a distance,
and it has become an important landmark of Phasi Charoen.
The temple complex itself is also worth exploring. Take your time to look around, enjoy the architecture, and experience the atmosphere of a working Thai temple rather than simply stopping for a photograph.

Our Local Tip
If you are planning to visit Wat Pak Nam, we recommend coming earlier in the day when the neighborhood is active but not yet too busy.
And don't just visit the temple and leave.
Take a little time to walk around the surrounding streets and canals. Look at the local food stalls, small shops, and everyday life. This is where you begin to see the Bangkok that exists beyond the usual tourist routes.
